The former Buffalo Bills third overall pick in 2011 recently had his team option declined by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though it shouldn’t be a huge surprise as the move saved the Jags $20 million in cap space.

Not a terribly hard decision after Marcell Dareus was injured most of 2019 putting together the worst year of his career totaling only 0.5 sacks, 13 tackles, and two QB pressures in six games.

Despite the forgettable season, Dareus is a big run-stuffing defensive tackle, just what head coach Matt Patricia likes for his interior guys.

Per ESPN, since acquiring the big man in the middle the Jaguars allowed 109.1 yards per game rushing with him in the lineup and 153.2 with him out.

So if health really was the only issue, Marcel’s 2018 numbers totaling one sack, 32 tackles, and six QB pressures in 15 games would be well worth the investment.
