Did the Detroit Lions draft reveal plan to fix more than the run game?
Detroit Lions offensive line upgrades
That brings us to the offseason changes made along the Detroit Lions offensive front. The starters at left tackle and center remain the same with Taylor Decker and Frank Ragnow entrenched in those positions, respectively. Joe Dahl and Kenny Wiggins are back reprising their roles in the guard rotation but there is significantly more competition since the draft.
At right tackle, the most likely starter is Halapoulivaati “Big V” Vaitai but third-year swing tackle, Tyrell Crosby, will push for more time after making seven starts over the last two years. No specific tackles were drafted to bolster the depth behind the top three men.
Second-year undrafted free agent Matt Nelson and veteran Dan Skipper remain as reserves and have been pressed into duty on occasion. Caleb Benenoch was signed as a flyer after not working out in Tampa Bay and bouncing around to a couple of other teams. He has played guard, as well, but not at a high enough level to be retained by head coach Bruce Arians and the Buccaneers staff.
The Detroit Lions interior line depth has no shortage of candidates to replace the departed Graham Glasgow, who signed a $44 million dollar deal to become a Denver Broncos player this offseason.
The Detroit Lions depth chart projects to look like this (projected starters in bold, rookies in italics):
Tackles: Decker, Vaitai, Crosby, Benenoch, Skipper, Nelson
Guards: Dahl, Wiggins, Logan Stenberg, Oday Aboushi, Josh Garnett
Centers: Ragnow, Jonah Jackson, Benzschawel, Russell Bodine
