NFC South

New Orleans 7-1

To lose Drew Brees for a month and only get better is some real evidence of a balanced and dangerous team. Still salty over how the NFC championship game ended, the Saints will try not to leave anything to chance this time around. Especially since we know by now that no pass interference challenges are getting overturned.

Carolina 5-3

If Christian McCaffrey keeps up his current pace, he’ll finish 2019 with a LaDainian Tomlinson-like 2,400 yards from scrimmage and 25 TDs. Meanwhile, an interesting side plot developing is whether Kyle Allen (one of three Allen’s currently starting in the NFL, in case you’ve got a chart going) is playing well enough to keep Cam Newton on the sidelines even when he gets healthy.

Tampa Bay 2-6

Tampa Bay no doubt has the ability to entertain (55-40 shootout over the Rams in September, an overtime game with Seattle on Sunday that was just as crazy), but to string some wins together? Doesn’t seem like it. Problem is, there are way too many truly awful teams in the NFL this year for the Bucs to help their draft status all that much, even if they keep losing…

Atlanta 1-7

And one of those teams just happens to sit below them in their division! The Falcons just continue trending downwards. While it would be cheap and overly simple to say that they haven’t recovered from the 28-3 Super Bowl choke three years ago, isn’t that exactly what it looks like is happening?

If I had to make a prediction… I’ll go out on a limb and say New Orleans takes this going away and lands the #2 seed. Falcons get up to five wins and hover around the 8th draft spot. Tampa Bay beats the Lions on the last play and I either break something or am so checked out by then that I don’t even bother.
