Charlie Heck, OT, North Carolina

Charlie Heck is another big framed prospect who hasn’t earned a ton of recognition but has a lot of talent. The UNC tackle is another 6-7, 310-pound type of player with twenty-two starts under his belt coming into twenty-nineteen. While watching some tape of him, he isn’t the elite athlete at the position but he moves well in bursts.

Heck is also a bit thin in the legs and lower body, he mirrors well but isn’t built like a gym rat. Heck could use some upper body muscle to add to lowering his body weight distribution. He bends pretty well and but catches defensive players too much. Heck is more of a pass protector than a run blocker from what we saw.

Draft Scout has him ranked as the number eight ranked tackle available for the NFL Draft. Regardless of the health of either Decker or Wagner, the Detroit Lions could have Heck for a mid-round or possibly later pick. He would be a great backup for Wagner but is similarly sized to Decker.

Final Thoughts

Nobody’s suggesting that the Lions waive Taylor Decker or Ricky Wagner. What we are suggesting is that the roster is in need of more talent and that some of that could be used to replace current starters to save money or to bolster depth and develop future starters.

The Detroit Lions have decisions to make about several starters over the next year or so, part of the plan to address those needs might be some prospects or veterans like the ones here.
