*The New York Jets acquired this pick in an earlier trade with the New York Giants*

With the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select…

Defensive Lineman. Houston. Ed Oliver. 6. player. 30. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

It seems that the Jets are wanting to trade back in this draft, but they also want to land Oliver as well. This would be one way to do it. Trade back from three, where the Jets would’ve taken him anyway, and acquire an extra second and fourth round picks and still walk away with Oliver.

Oliver is a bit of a question mark at the next level. He seems to not have a bona fide position, as teams have have speculated he could be a defensive tackle, a defensive end, or maybe even a linebacker. The Jets however, don’t really care. They feel comfortable taking an athlete like him and deploying him in a multitude of ways.

I would expect the Jets to use him all over their front seven, depending on the package and situation. Regardless, Oliver is a talented player and an exceptional athlete. Adding him to their defense gives them another weapon to use against opposing offenses.
