17. The 2004 Detroit Lions
Record: 4
- Context is important when comparing the six win season in ’04 to the current one
- 6-10 at the time was considered a sign of improvement (coming off of 2-14, 3-13, and 5-11 in the three prior seasons), rather than a massive disappointment
Achievements: 2
- Season sweep over the Bears keeps Detroit out of last place in the division
- Eddie Drummond makes first time All-Pro on the strength of four return touchdowns
Star Power: 3.5
- CB Dre’ Bly in his prime, reaching the Pro Bowl for the second year in a row
- DT Shaun Rogers in his prime, with his first Pro Bowl appearance
- QB Joey Harrington, having his best season as a Lion and sparking some hope in the first half
Entertainment Value: 4
- Lions got off to a hot start (4-2), getting us fans more excited than we should have been, before tailing off later in the season
- Eddie Drummond’s electrifying returns, including two consecutive punt returns in the fourth quarter of the Jacksonville game to single-handedly force overtime
- Sadly, this was Detroit’s best season of the six year stretch from 2001 to 2006
Total Score: 13.5
