Ranking every Detroit Lions team from the last 25 years (20-16)
18. The 2018 Detroit Lions
Record: 3.5
- The Lions regressing by three games this year (6-10, after going 9-7 in 2017) looks even worse when compared to Chicago’s seven game improvement (12-4 and NFC North champs), also with a first time head coach
Achievements: 3.5
- Dominating in all phases of a 26-10 win against the Patriots in Week 3
- An incredible 4-0 record for the season against league MVP quarterbacks (Aaron Rodgers twice, Tom Brady, Cam Newton
- Winning 31-0 at Lambeau field in the season finale, Detroit’s first shutout win in 22 years
- Another season sweep over the Packers
Star Power: 2.5
- Darius Slay, in the middle of his prime, with another Pro Bowl selection
- Matthew Stafford, having the worst season of his career
- Golden Tate/Kerryon Johnson/Kenny Golladay, all flashing brilliance at various parts of the year, then disappearing (literally and figuratively) from the offense
Entertainment Value: 3.5
- Kicker Matt Prater throwing a touchdown, offensive lineman Taylor Decker catching one, the Lions manhandling the league’s greatest dynasty and then pitching a shutout in its greatest stadium. 2018 was great in the singular snapshots when the Lions were turning things upside-down, but not in the larger picture, where they took too many steps backward.
