Third Quarter

Kerryon kicked off the third quarter with a gain of four yards but on 3rd & 4 of that drive, Stafford was sacked once again. A three-and-out for Detroit was definitely not how they foresaw the quarter opening for them but nevertheless, the Lions had to punt the ball away to their opponents once again.

The Vikings continued to move the chains on the ground as the Lions fought to find an answer to stop their rivals. On their first 3rd down of the third quarter, Minnesota was backed up due to a false start penalty. Despite the loss of yards, the Vikings converted for the first down through the air on a pass to Aldrick Robinson.

On the next 2nd & 5, Snacks Harrison stopped Dalvin Cook for a loss of 1 with an impressive tackle on the second year ball carrier. Cousins tried to hit a sprinting Robinson in the end zone but the pass fell incomplete.

The Lions took over from their 3-yard line and they had their work cut out for them. Kerryon managed to gain six yards in the shadow of his own end zone and on his second consecutive carry on the drive, the rookie runner finished with enough yards for the first down.

Later, Stafford went down for the sixth time in the game to the relentless Vikings defense and after receiving the next pass from his QB, Marvin Jones was stripped for a fumble but the ball went out of bounds in a favorable bounce for the Lions. Sam Martin came back into the game to punt the ball after another failed offensive series for the Lions.

On their seventh possession with the ball, Minnesota moved the chains a bit but Detroit’s defense stepped up with a strong stand and forced the Viking punt.

Detroit gained four yards to open up their next possession and Marvin Jones caught the next pass to convert the first down. The Lions ran a reverse with Kerryon on a decent call but he only gained five. Stafford got sacked for the seventh and eighth times on the next two snaps with the latter sack marking a new career high of takedowns for the Motown signal caller.
