Lions vs. Seahawks: Mistakes cripple Detroit at home in loss
Fourth Quarter
The Seahawks were initially thought to have converted on third down with a pass to Vannett but Matt Patricia challenged the ruling and the call was reversed but Seattle kept the ball and Teez Tabor got beat for a 45-yard gainer. From there, Chris Carson ran over Detroit’s defenders en route to a 7-yard touchdown run, 28-7 Seattle.
Detroit opened up their first fourth quarter possession from their own 15-yard line with a drop from no. 15, Golden Tate. On 3rd & 6, Detroit converted with a quick check down pass to Kerryon.
Detroit continued to drive and they also picked up more yardage due to a roughing-the-passer penalty. Tate picked up another six yards and on the 2nd & 4 play, Abdullah caught a quick pass to move the chains. On 2nd & 10, Marvin Jones got loose again for a gorgeous 19-yard scoring strike, 28-14 Seattle.
Seattle continued to work their damage on the ground as they pushed the ball downfield. On 3rd & 1, Detroit’s defense stopped Seattle with an absolute power play by Quandre Diggs. Marvin Jones caught 19-yard and 14-yard passes to move the chains as Detroit operated with a sense of urgency. Whatever rally Detroit was looking to force was put on hold after Stafford was sacked. He fumbled the ball and Seattle recovered.
After a Wilson sack, Detroit got the ball back and as they tried to force it into the end zone. Yet, Stafford threw an unfortunate interception as he tried to make something happen for his team. His turnover essentially sealed the game and sent fans to the exits.
Any remaining hopes that Detroit had to try and do something significant in this game was extinguished as the Seahawks ran for and converted for a first down on 4th & 8 on what looked like a designed fake punt. This game was a letdown for Detroit as they fell flat at home to lose by two touchdowns.
This was a tough loss for the Detroit Lions to take, especially at home. And next week, things won’t get any easier as the 3-4 Lions head to US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis as they take on a formidable MInnesota Vikings squad who currently lead the NFC North division with four wins.
