Detroit Lions: Two “Terrell” argument for Calvin Johnson in Canton
TERRELL TWO
Running back Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos was a part of the 2017 class in Canton. His entire career spanned 78 games over seven seasons. Really the bulk of his production came in the first four years of his career, as he only played in 17 games over the last three years.

Megatron played in 135 games for the Detroit Lions. He never played in less than 13 games in any given year. Calvin dealt with injuries, which did contribute to his retirement, but he left on his own terms.
Davis, on the other hand, only had four solid seasons of play. The last three years are best described as “sad” and really only dragged down his averages. Yet he made the Hall of Fame.
Calvin had nine great seasons. During those years, he was one of the most dominant wide receivers in the league. Calvin rarely saw single coverage, and yet his numbers are consistently great year after year.
Terrell Davis does have two Super Bowl rings. But he also played with indisputably one of the top five quarterbacks in NFL history: John Elway. And he was drafted by an organization in the Denver Broncos that has a proud track record of competitive football.
Unfortunately for Johnson, the Detroit Lions drafted him. This statement is not meant as an insult to the franchise, but Calvin was drafted at the tail end of the Matt Millen era. The worst era for any NFL team under the worst general manager in sports history.
