These two guards played together at a high level in Green Bay, so would the Detroit Lions consider reuniting Josh Sitton with T.J. Lang?

The Detroit Lions have room on the roster to add talent to the guard position. Finishing off the 2017 season, Joe Dahl, Graham Glasgow and T.J. Lang formed the interior of the offensive line. Glasgow assumed the duties of the center position in the absence of center Travis Swanson and Dahl moved into the vacant left guard position for Glasgow.

Those three, along with Zac Kerin, are the only guards on the roster. And with Swanson not guaranteed to be back in his starting role at center in 2018, Kerin would be the only backup available with Glasgow moving to center. That leads us to the announcement made by the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.

Josh Sitton started his career with the Green Bay Packers in 2008 at right guard. He manned the right side until 2013 when he switched to left guard. In 2016, his career took him to Chicago where he played both guard spots and right tackle in 2017.

Sitton was joined in Green Bay by current Lions right guard T.J. Lang in 2009. The tandem worked together for seven years protecting Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and helping the team to the playoffs all seven years from 2009-2015.

As the Bears say goodbye to Sitton, the Lions could be ready to say hello. Another veteran presence combined with the chemistry with Lang could help strengthen the interior offensive line for quarterback Matthew Stafford. And let’s not forget the impact it could have on the running game.

If Sitton’s age keeps him from the starting lineup, he would still provide much-needed depth on the roster. As always, this could be a great pick up if the price is right. If Sitton asks for too much money, all bets are off. But right now, it’s fun to imagine what it would be like for Sitton and Lang to revive the magic from their days together in Green Bay.
