Stock Down: Right Tackles

In 2013, the Detroit Lions struck gold by signing LaAdrian Waddle to an undrafted free agent contract.  The massive tackle became a spot starter by midseason due to injuries to other players and was the top rated rookie offensive tackle that season.  The team would follow that up by showing the utmost confidence in him in 2014.  Lol, just kidding, they made him fight for his job all preseason and only reluctantly gave him the job when week one came around.

Waddle would struggle with injuries in 2014, giving rise to another UDFA in Cornelius Lucas.  Lucas looked way out of his element as a starter and much more like a UDFA than Waddle ever did.  He fought with Garrett Reynolds and lost, which should tell you how much skill he has.  Injuries to the aforementioned Reynolds led to Lucas starting and it was a disaster.

Not as much of a disaster as he’s looked this season, however.  Lucas has been a serious problem.   He has no punch.  He has no reach, despite his massive size and frame.  He’s basically just a slight annoyance to pass rushers coming off the edge.  You’d think that Waddle, now healthy, could take his job back, but you’d be fed a big glass of nope.  Instead, Waddle languishes on the bench while Cornelius Lucas actively tries to kill his quarterback.
