<p>The Detroit Lions have a lot of playing time up for grabs at the defensive end position. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/V/VandKy99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-sidelionreport.com">Kyle Vanden Bosch</a> has already been cut and with each passing day it seems less and less likely that the Lions&#8217; other starting defensive end, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/A/AvriCl99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-sidelionreport.com">Cliff Avril</a>, will remain with the team.</p>
<p>Add in the fact that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pro-football-reference.com/player_search.fcgi?search=Lawrence+Jackson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-sidelionreport.com">Lawrence Jackson</a> is also set to become a free agent and there is a lot of uncertainty at the position. All that being the case, it comes as no surprise the Lions appear active in the defensive end market.</p>
<p>NFL.com&#8217;s Daniel Jeremiah tweeted out the Lions&#8217; interest in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JoneJa99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-sidelionreport.com">Jason Jones</a> earlier this morning:</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>I&#8217;m hearing DE Jason Jones has drawn interest from several teams, including NYG, DET, CLE and KC.</p>
<p>&mdash; Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) <a href="https://twitter.com/MoveTheSticks/status/311133679873314816">March 11, 2013</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Jones is originally from the Detroit area and played his college ball at Eastern Michigan before becoming a second round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2008. Jones spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks.</p>
<p>But Jones isn&#8217;t the only defensive end who was originally drafted by the Titans while Jim Schwartz was their defensive coordinator. The other is <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HayeWi99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-sidelionreport.com">William Hayes</a> <a href="http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2013/03/rams_de_williams_hayes_is_bein.html" target="_blank">according to MLive&#8217;s Anwar Richardson</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>If Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz is not camped outside of <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BushRe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&#038;utm_source=direct&#038;utm_medium=linker-sidelionreport.com">Reggie Bush</a>&#8216;s&#8217; door tomorrow afternoon, St. Louis Rams defensive end Williams Hayes could receive a knock on his door around 4 p.m.</p>
<p>Detroit is currently one of several NFL teams actively pursuing Hayes in free agency, according to sources. Hayes could potentially replace Lions defensive end Cliff Avril, who might sign with another team when free agency officially begins tomorrow at 4 p.m.</p></blockquote>
<p>Despite playing just 338 snaps for the St. Louis Rams last season, Hayes earned the 15th best defensive end rating from Pro Football Focus.</p>
<p>Hayes was originally a fourth round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2008.</p>
