The Detroit Lions website is advertising for 2013 season ticket deposits and fortunately they are kind enough to provide a 2013 seating chart and pricing list.

Good news: Detroit Lions season ticket prices are going to stay the same as they were for the 2012 season.

I should note that only the per game price as part of a season ticket package is shown so it is possible some pricing changes will be made for tickets sold for individual games. While season ticket holders are “forced” to purchase preseason games, the discount essentially includes those games for free.

Season ticket holders get prices discounted ranging from $100-$400 for the total package depending on seat location.

Here is the season ticket price rundown:

It has been less than a week since Tom Lewand announced that Detroit Lions ticket prices would be going up for next season. The announcement should have come as a surprise to no one based on the success of the team and the fact that the ticket prices have remained steady or decreased since the end of the 2007 season. However, specifics were not revealed other than that the price increase was around 8 percent on average.

The Detroit Lions website has an updated seating chart based on 2012 pricing but only lists the per game price as part of a season ticket package. However, information sent out to season ticket holders reveals both the season ticket price and the single ticket price. Season ticket holders will continue to see a per game savings over the price of individual tickets at the box office. (more…)

Now, the Lions are coming off their first playoff appearance since 1999 and one has to wonder if ticket prices are due for a bump up in 2012.

Mandatory Credit: Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE

It would be easy to argue that the team should hold prices steady as an act of goodwill towards a loyal fanbase. On the other hand, even the cheapest tickets for the Monday Night and Thanksgiving games had no problem clearing triple digits on the secondary market. From a business standpoint it is reasonable for the Lions organization to make sure they, not a ticket broker, see the financial benefit of a winning team.

I’ll leave the “should they or shouldn’t they” philosophical debate for others to discuss but a look around the NFC North shows that the Lions have some room to raise ticket prices when compared to their peers.
