We have reached the halfway point of our preview of the Detroit Lions’ 2012 schedule. That brings us to the Seattle Seahawks. I reached out to Keith Myers, editor at 12th Man Rising, for some insight on the Seahawks. My thanks to him for taking the time to answer my questions.

1. What is your initial reaction to the Seahawks’ 2012 draft?

Keith Myers: My initial reaction was very positive, in spite of all the hand wringing from the national media. The Seahawks went into the draft needing a pass rusher, and wanting a speedy jack-of-all trades LB, and that’s exactly what they got. Bruce Irvin was the best pure pass rusher in the draft, and Bobby Wagner has tremendous measurables to go along with good instincts. While both a bit raw, both with also have an opportunity to develop before being asked to carry the load for the defense due to good depth at their positions.

2. Early word from Pete Carroll suggests Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Flynn will enter camp on equal footing. Who do you expect to be the starting quarterback when the Seahawks travel to Detroit to play the Lions?

KM: Jackson has spent 7 years in this offense. Flynn is just starting to learn it, so it should be no surprise that Flynn wasn’t able to distance himself from Jackson in June with no pads. I do expect Flynn to win the job once the pads are on and Jackson goes back to making the same mistakes he’s been making his entire career.

Dan Zinski, a Minnesota Vikings blogger at The Viking Age, and I took some time to exchange questions and answers in preparation of the Lions game against the ‘Vikes. Head over to Dan’s site to check out my answers to his questions.

Zac Snyder: Let’s say Favre is cleared to play on Sunday, who should get the start?

Dan Zinski: Well, I have to admit, I’ve gone back-and-forth on this one about fifteen times in the past week. Originally I was firmly among those who thought Favre should be given his last hurrah. My argument was, Joe Webb is probably not going to end up being the starter anyway, so why not let Favre ride off into the sunset the way he wants, or at least upright. That was until Webb put up that nice performance Tuesday night. Now I’m actually leaning more toward letting Webb play, just to see if he can follow up that solid effort with another one. I still have my doubts that Webb will be the guy but the doubts are smaller than they were last week. And I’m somewhat scared that even if Favre does play he’ll just get laid flat again and I’m really in no hurry to see that. So, at this point, I’d say I’m 55-45 in favor of Webb. It’s hard because you really want to see Favre put on one last show, but it seems that’s not in the cards. And you can no longer make the argument that Favre necessarily gives you a better chance to win than Webb, cause Webb went into Philly and won.

ZS: There was a lot of hype surrounding Tarvaris Jackson when he was in Joe Webb’s spot a few years back. Jackson went on to have some good performances but it doesn’t look like he will live up to the hype. Why should NFL observers expect anything different from Webb?

Our old pal Matt Millen is stirring up trouble once again. Millen got into it with Steve Young live on the air during ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown.

Young is under the impression that the firing of Brad Childress proves that Brett Favre is running the show in Minnesota. Matt Millen doesn’t buy that because neither of them are there and don’t know what’s going on in that locker room.

If there is anyone that knows something about not knowing what is going on inside an NFL organization it certainly is Matt Millen. Check out the video clip here: (more…)
