A few teams have called? That’s tampering and that’s a big deal. (more…)

The NFL previously announced that the Lions would forfeit their seventh round draft pick and swap fifth round draft picks with the Kansas City Chiefs as a result of the Chiefs’ allegations that the Lions tampered with some of their players.

It was not previously known if the Lions had filed an appeal by the deadline, neither the coaching staff or front office would give a straight answer either way. Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the Lions did indeed file an appeal and that he would be reviewing it upon his return from the owners meetings in New Orleans.

The Lions may win or lose the appeal but it is nice to see them at least fight back after bearing the brunt of a lot of bad calls throughout the season. It is hard to tell what kind of chances the Lions have in the appeal process but it would be nice to see them at least get their seventh round pick back.

Many fans wanted a press conference rampage from Jim Schwartz in the wake of the week one debacle that re-taught us everything we thought we knew about a catch. The organization kept a cool head publicly because there wasn’t anything they could do to change the situation. They took the professional route and moved on respectfully while agreeing to disagree.

Conspiracy theorists that claim the Lions are nothing more than the NFL’s whipping boy gained more traction with a series of phantom personal foul calls went against Ndamukong Suh. To add insult to injury, the league went a step further by assessing a fine to Mr. Suh for his push down of Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

The league’s most recent action against the Lions is a tampering judgment against the organization in response to some comments that defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham made last summer. The Lions have until Monday to appeal the decision although it now looks like there is no guarantee they will do so according to Martin Mayhew:
