EA Sports spent a lot of their time at the 2011 edition of E3 promoting the newest installment of the Madden video game franchise. They’ve caught wind of the excitement surrounding the Lions defensive line so they released this gameplay video featuring Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley.

Why the Silver Crush has John Elway to Fear

One of the first criticisms of Jim Schwartz’s choice of “Silver Crush” as the nickname for the Lions’ defensive line is that it sounds like a rip-off of the Denver Broncos “Orange Crush” defense. Now that John Elway holds the title of vice president in the Broncos organization, it wouldn’t be a shock to hear him voice his opposition to the Silver Crush. According to Yahoo Sports, Elway has previously taken exception with a group using a name that hits a little too close to home for his taste:

With the NFL lockout in full swing, John Elway must really be bored.

Somehow Elway — the Denver Broncos vice president and Hall-of-Fame quarterback — became aware of the Fort Collins, Colo., punk band “Elway,” and decided he’s just not cool with the group using his surname.

The Broncos legend’s lawyer has requested that the band change its name, but stopped short of suing or issuing a cease and desist order.

The band took it in stride with a some self-deprecating humor:

We have no intention of changing the name again. We love the name, regardless of what connotations are inferred by the listener. Surely, if the Dead Kennedys could become one of punk’s most popular bands without incurring litigation, Elway can keep their moniker and continue making so-so music for our dozens of fans to
enjoy.
