The top twenty draft picks go to non-playoff teams with the next four going to teams that lost in the Wild Card round. With the playoffs heading into the divisional round, the first 24 picks are locked into place.

The Cincinnati Bengals have the worst record among Wild Card losers and will pick 21st. The Pittsburgh Steelers will pick 24th as the Wild Card loser with the best record. In between are the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions, two teams that finished the regular season with 10-6 records. The Cleveland Browns get the Falcons pick because of a 2011 draft day trade and will pick 22nd while the Lions get pick 23 due to the strength of schedule tie breaker.

The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers may have been the only two teams left on Super Bowl Sunday but that doesn’t mean the city of Detroit didn’t have a prominent place. Eminiem’s Chrysler ad was one of the most talked about commercials of the evening.

The Packers victory in Super Bowl XLV (following Christina Aguilera’s anthem fail) officially closed the 2010 season and one of the teams talked about as one with potential to break into the playoffs in 2011 was the Detroit Lions. While optimism for the Lions’ 2011 season was riding high, the specter of a lockout loomed. The possibility of a lockout became real enough to start writing about and even brought about its own set of relevant topics.

Meanwhile, Bob Sanders’ was released by the Colts and Shaun Rogers was in the middle of a free agency tour. Both names garnered plenty of talks among Lions fans.
