Cam Newton vs. Detroit front 7

The Carolina Panthers were the worst team in football last season, and although their record isn’t evidence or a turnaround, they are a much improved team. Simply put, they are dangerous. They aren’t going to win their division, or earn a wildcard spot, or even come close to a winning record; but they can play with anyone on any given Sunday, and have proven that thus far this season. This is a team that can step up any given week and beat an elite NFL team.

The reason for this is Cam Newton. Amid the hoopla that accompanies any first overall draft choice, there were plenty of naysayers who screamed their doubts into the ears of the rookie quarterback, and all who would listen. Newton was immediately categorized as a Tim Tebow quarterback; one with zero transferable NFL skill, who was simply the product of a system in college. The difference here is that Newton has proven that he actually does possess the skill necessary to be a signal caller in this league.

You can say the Lions didn’t look that bad. You can say Culpepper looked pretty decent (despite giving up two picks) and you can also say that the Lions showed a lot of heart today, and its all true.

But here’s what’s also true: The Lions can’t tackle. In a league of parity, the difference between giving up a 3 yard run and giving up a touchdown is one or two missed tackles. When the team you are playing, a run first kind of team by the way, sets a franchise record for yards on the ground against you, you are obviously lacking. When the QB’s starting against you are typically having career days, you got a problem.

The problem is Joe Barry who is clearly in over his head and doesn’t have the ability to deal with this and doesn’t have the players to execute. One is his fault, the other is daddy in laws fault.

The thing is that we are fans. And our team is not delivering, it is in fact winless at 0-10 and WE WANT BLOOD. Fire Joe Barry.

They “did good” except for holding onto the ball too long, so says Colletto:

“Both he and Daunte held the ball a little bit, a couple of times…And that happens when they don’t play. Their first time out there and the speed of the game and making instant decisions, that happens to a lot of quarterbacks when they first start out. They hold the ball a little too long.”

It was the Rookie’s first game and the Veteran’s first game in a looong time. Like it or lump it, the next test is against a good team, one with a murderous pass rush that is going to pound our O-Line play after play after play.

Check out John’s Cat Crave Radio for a little interview action and learn the one thing I think Matt Millen will have forever, something no one else will ever be able to get in Pro Sports. If you want to cheat, it’s at around the ten minute mark.

Drew Henson cleared waivers (because nobody wants him) and he is back on the practice squad. Also in other painfully uninteresting news, Aveion Cason has been resigned as well in order to “improve” the special teams return squad alongside Adam Jennings who wasn’t good enough to play on the Atlanta Falcons, I’m sure you remember them. They were that team we played on day 1 that was supposed to be rebuilding because it was left in shambles last year so like, we were totally supposed to like… smash them to pieces and we were even favored on the road for the first time in a million years and the Falcons took us to SCHOOL… IN THE FIRST TEN MINUTES of the game. It’s been all downhill since.
