Jason Fox is hurt again.

This is not a promising development in his, well, development – especially considering Martin Mayhew’s words earlier this year:

Every time he’s been healthy, we’ve been very happy with what we’ve seen from him. But, I think for offensive lineman in this league, you have to be a guy that can get out there and play 16 games.

Entering his third season, Fox hasn’t given the reason any reason to be confident in his ability to play a 16-game schedule.

Jim Schwartz said earlier today that Jason Fox has been having a good offseason so far but that knee soreness will likely sideline him for the duration of this week’s minicamp.

If nagging ailments are preventing Fox from getting on the field at minicamp, how are the Lions supposed to count on him to stay on the field over the course of a season? That’s the problem.

Incumbent right tackle Gosder Cherilus has one year left on his contract and what to do with him is another issue the Lions will have to face in the next year. Jason Fox’s injury problems could take him out of the running as a possible replacement for Cherilus depending on when Riley Reiff is ready to claim the left tackle spot.

The battle for a roster spot at tackle looks fierce and continued injury problems could leave Jason Fox on the outside looking in when the season starts.
