The Vick experiment was like watching the premiere episode of your favorite TV show. It’s thrilling for the first few minutes, then it cools down, and finally you end up slightly disappointed. Vick looked fine. I just don’t see how he’s going to help this team if he only gets 10 to 15 snaps per game.

from our network blog Inside The Iggles

Sadly I didn’t get to see it. Thanks to the good people at the Fox Network and their brilliant deductions about regional coverage, I (and you) were treated to a rousing matchup between The Dolphins of Miami and The Bucaneers of Tampa Bay. It was a brillian match and I saw all of 6 points scored before it was delayed for weather for god knows how long. Didn’t notice if they decided to show the 6 Vick plays or not… I was working. (We were kinda busy too, go figure).

I wanted to see him break away for a 50 yard ESPN highlight reel run… Not because I care for him. Because I’m interested in the reaction. Yeah, a lot of people hate him. But even more people simply don’t care. They are indifferent. It may be because they don’t share this nations strong feelings about the killing of doggies, it may be because they realize football players do horrible things all the time and this particular case is the one that really pissed casual fans and people that don’t care about football off.

In the end I think I’m starting to believe in the 2nd chances thing. Yeah he’s reprehensible. But if you grow up around a ‘dog fighting’ kind of social network. If you’re taught that it’s not a big deal, you’re going to think of it as … NOT A BIG DEAL.

Some people are born on farms and think nothing of slaughtering a lamb or a chicken. Yes thats for something worthwhile and dog fighting is for gambling which doesn’t count as “something worthwhile” I understand that don’t bother mentioning it. But the guy did 2 years in the pokey. Prison sucks, he did his time and paid his debt.

People have been doing horrible things for centuries. Romans pitted gladiators against each other for sport. And they were arguably the most successful civilization in human history. Would not you consider NFL Football the modern equivalent of Gladiator sport? We Call them Grid Iron Gladiators, do we not?

In his post game presser, Vick said he wants to do it right this time.

Benjamin Franklin said that nobody walks away happy from a good compromise.

I don’t condone what he did, but I believe in second chances. If he can make it right this time, if he can stay on the up and up, well I suppose he did 2 years in the clink and had plenty of time to think about his lifestyle and his actions, perhaps he really has changed.

We’ll see how it goes on and off the field.

It’s a curious and complicated situation.

Pro Football players do bad things off the field all the time. ALL the time. *ALL* *THE* *TIME*

Donte Stallworth is currently in jail for killing a guy while drunk driving (I’m not even going to get into that here, I am however trying to put something informative and entertaining about that… more on that later). His sentence was mind blowing and it says a lot about where we draw the line as Vick has gotten out after 23 months in a federal prison and Stallworth will be out in a week or two.

Mess with dogs and people. get. PISSED.

That said, Mike Vick is out and he has been reinstated, allowed to participant in a camp and will be suspended for 6 games. Is that enough? Keep in mind he was suspended for a year by the NFL before any convictions were handed down. Love it or hate it, he’s in and with all this ‘Wild Cat’ offensive scheme stuff gaining popularity, Vick is going to be able to contribute as soon as week seven with his agility. If you have a good running back and the speed of Vick with the Wide Out running all over the place with that goofy Wild Cat stuff for 5 or 6 plays a game, its going to keep defenses confused and off balance.

Teams that can take him are the “good” teams, they’ve been to the playoffs several times in the last few seasons and they have a solid, experienced core of of big time NFL playmakers. Even storied trouble makers have shut the hell up and fitted themselves into the system, i.e. Randy Moss going to New England as a draft trade for a box of peanuts and a pretzel machine. When Belicheck waves that hand around with fingers full of hardware, you shut up and listen. Simple as that.

Rumor has it that Seattle is where Vick will end up. I would say that’s at the bottom end of the better teams, but it is a better team (I guess sort of maybe kinda). The way that the sub-sequential PR ****-storm plays out will be interesting to see, in the end I think it will expose the fickle nature of America’s sports fans. First make nice. Next and most importantly, win win win and they will forget your past and embrace you.

I’ve never really valued Vick as a Quarterback, even the Lions shut him down and took him out of the game by zone blitzing the outside and forcing him to stay in the pocket and throw the ball like a real pocket passer. He couldn’t do it. But he could use his legs to resuscitate collapsed plays and pulled off a grand in rushing as a QB.

And he’ll do it all on the ex-felon, salary cap friendly price range!

I don’t like Mike Vick. As a player.

I despise him as a person. We’ll just get that out there in the open.

As a player he was a decent Athlete that could scramble and he just so happened to throw the ball (poorly) when the situation called for it. He was a wretched QB, he can run but if you crush the pocket and give him no place to go, he can’t hit the broadside of a barn with a football. Even the Lions embarrassed him a few years ago in Marinelli’s first year. It was a simple trick, force him to be a quarterback. Take away his scrambling options and just let him throw the ball. Pick after fumble after pick, Mike Vick will show you that he sucks as a QB.

With all this talk about the Falcons shopping his contract rights around, all teams beware and stay away from this train wreck in waiting, no matter how desperate and/or pathetic your roster is. I don’t think the Lions would touch this guy, and may the universal sense of justice in the cosmos keep this A-hole from ever pulling another NFL check.

Good Riddance Micheal Vick, We Knew Too Much of Ye.
