It’s easy to tell what a network thinks of an NFL matchup by the broadcast team they send to cover the game. No matter what you think of Joe Buck, when you hear his voice calling a game you know it is the best game FOX has to offer that week.

So, what does FOX think about the game between the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars? Not much.

Ron Pitts is set to call the action and be joined in the FOX broadcast booth by former Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz. The pair checks in at the bottom of the network’s seven team broadcasting roster. Martz is the network’s newest game day analyst while Pitts has been with FOX for the duration of their 19-year coverage of NFL football.

Fans looking to watch the game live had better live within the teams’ local areas or have DirecTV’s Sunday Ticket package. Lions at Jaguars is currently only scheduled to be shown over the air to fans in the Eastern portion of Michigan’s upper peninsula as well as most of the lower peninsula and the greater Jacksonville area. Television coverage maps are available at the506.com.

FOX has seven broadcast teams assembled for the 2012 NFL season and they are dispersed based on quality of game. As the number one team, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman travel to FOX’s highest profile game each week. They’ll be in Dallas this week when the Cowboys host the Buccaneers.

Who is heading to Nashville to call the Lions versus the Titans? Team number seven.

FOX’s bottom of the barrel team is made up of Ron Pitts and, wait for it… Mike Martz.

Martz spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with the Lions as their offensive coordinator. He spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears before announcing his retirement from coaching last January. Martz joined FOX Sports to replace Jim Mora Jr. who stepped out of the broadcast booth to take the head coaching job at UCLA.

The game will be shown on broadcast television throughout Michigan as well as Toledo, OH and the areas surrounding Nashville, TN and Knoxville, TN.
