Five different quarterbacks attempted a pass for the Lions on their way to the league’s first 0-16 season. Some coaches faced with a quarterback controversy have said that if you have two quarterbacks you really don’t have any at all. Try having five. Ranked from most pass attempts to least they are: Dan Orlovsky, Jon Kitna, Daunte Culpepper, Drew Stanton and Drew Henson.

There’s no such thing as a tip. But I am really polite and I say ‘Thank you sir.’ … The pizza man knows, when he comes to my address, he’s coming for free. I might just take [a date] to the casino and get her a free buffet. If I did take a date out to a nice place, I’d take her to a nice place, like a Red Lobster or something. It wouldn’t be Morton’s or nothing like that.

The stupidest part of that quote might be his characterization of Red Lobster as a “nice place”, but I digress.

Well, Roy Williams is at it again. This time he is saying that former Lions, and current Cowboys, quarterback Jon Kitna is as good as Tony Romo. I can’t say for sure whether Williams was comparing Kitna to the Romo with the broken collar bone or a healthy Romo, let’s hope for Roy’s sake he meant the hurt Romo. Here is the full quote:

Tony is our starter, but Jon is just as good. We are going to work this week in practice so we can get the timing down with the receivers. But I have complete faith in him. I have played with him for three years and I know how good he is.

My first reaction was to laugh but J.D. Ramirez at the Dallas Cowboys blog The Landry Hat took a closer look and concluded that while Kitna is no Tony Romo he isn’t a bad option for the Cowboys.

Of all the missteps taken by the Cowboys management, signing Kitna to an extension was not one of them. The unfortunate situation for Romo is that if the Cowboys start to win, it will be presumed that it was Romo who was holding this team back. Generally when a star quarterback is taken out of the game, the remainder of the team rallies behind the backup and plays harder because they know they have a greater responsibility in the success of the game. Seemingly that concern has limited merit. When Romo was knocked out of the game, the only player who raised their level of play was Dez Bryant. The defense all but gave up, the running game was non-existent, and the offensive line still allowed pressure to reach Kitna.
