I hope you find time to read this site every day but I know busy schedules means that probably isn’t realistic. As a matter of convenience for finding some of SLR’s best content from the past week, enjoy the SideLion Report Saturday Second Serving. Consider this the editor’s picks of the week.

Monday: The lockout officially ended so I put together a few thoughts on what it meant to me.

Tuesday: Tom Lewand did the media circuit and Nate talked about the Lions doing the right thing.

Wednesday: Ross discussed two special teams battles to watch during camp and I didn’t worry about a trade to send Donovan McNabb to Minnesota.

Thursday: There was some disappointment in learning Johnathan Joseph was taken off the market by signing with the Houston Texans but at least the Lions were able to sign their entire draft class prior to the opening of camp. Yeah, it was a good week.

Friday: It was good to see the Lions back on the field and even better to hear that the team was sharp in their first practice. If only Alphonso Smith hadn’t broken his foot…

Sorry Detroit Lions Fans, Johnathan Joseph to Sign With Houston Texans

If Stephen Tulloch was free agent 1A with Lions fans then Johnathan Joseph was likely 1B. While news regarding Tulloch has gone from good to bad to quiet, the news with Johnathan Joseph is bad and it won’t be getting better – he’s reached an agreement with the Houston Texans.

ESPN’s John Clayton Links Detroit Lions and Johnathan Joseph

Of course I go and write a post about the relative quiet surrounding the Lions activities regarding free agent cornerbacks only to have ESPN’s John Clayton wrap up his first day of tweeting with the following:

ready to wrap up the first day of tweeting. I think the Lions do have a great chance at getting J. Joseph, but the Bengals are still in hunt

There is some uncertainty whether or not the Lions can afford to sign Joseph and Tulloch in addition to the deal they just struck with Justin Durant. Could we see a case of “first one to agree gets the spot”? That doesn’t sound like the kind of game the Lions would play but these are uncharted waters for the Lions and the rest of the NFL.

Nothing becomes official until Friday afternoon so expect another day and a half of ups and downs. Enjoy the ride!
