Cleveland used their second round draft selection of the 2013 NFL Draft to draft former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon in this year’s supplemental draft. According to ESPN Adam Schefter, the Browns were the only team to put in a 2nd-round claim.

The Lions elected not to use a future draft selection.

SLR previously discussed the benefits of the Lions using a draft pick on TCU running back Ed Wesley because of the depth, talent, and consistency Wesley could have added to the Lions running game. Wesley went undrafted and would be a great get for the Lions for their training camp roster should they wish to add his services.

Of the eight players in the supplemental draft, only one player was drafted.

Matthew Stafford won the comeback player of the year award, as voted by fans, at ESPN’s ESPYS on Wednesday. It makes sense for Stafford, an injury-riddled player in 2009 and 2010, to win the comeback player of the year award after watching him dismantle NFL secondary’s all season in 2011 by posting a grand total of 41 passing touchdowns and just over 5,000 yards through the air.

We’ll take the award, but it still doesn’t erase the expletives my TV set heard after watching Julius Peppers nearly end Stafford’s career to start the 2010 NFL Season.

ESPN recently released their list of ESPY nominees and a couple Detroit Lions are up for awards in 2012.

Matthew Stafford is one of four athletes nominated for “Best Comeback Athlete”. Sidney Crosby, Johan Santana and Maria Sharapova are also up for the award. Stafford figures to have a great shot at winning due to the popularity of the NFL, the fantastic season he had personally and as a team and his general likability.

Calvin Johnson finds himself as one of five players up for “Best NFL Player” along with Drew Brees, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Rodgers and Terrell Suggs. Beating out a quarterback for an award like this is tough but if there is a player that can do it it’s CJ.

Cast your ESPY votes at ESPN.com.
