That being the case, I have sought out bloggers that cover teams that the Lions will play in the 2011 season to get a glimpse into what is going on with those teams.

Granted, this exercise presumes that no games will be lost due to the lockout. That might be a big step of faith, especially in regards to the preseason games, but I have a hard time operating under any other assumption. I know what happens when one assumes, let’s hope the labor situation doesn’t prove the old saying true. These Q&As aren’t meant to be any sort of game preview, it is obviously way too early for that. The subject teams may end up looking much different when the Lions play them compared to how they look now, but I anticipate this being a good introduction to each teams’ hopes, fears, needs, expectations, etc.

The Lions are scheduled to open the regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I was able to send some questions to Patrik Nohe, the editor at the Pewter Plank, and he was kind enough to provide responses. Here we go…

That man is Da’Quan Bowers.

Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 280 lbs.
Arm Length: 33 1/8 in.
Hand Size: 10 1/4 in.

NFL.com combine profile overview:

Bowers has the ability to become a franchise NFL defensive end with the potential to dominate against the run and pass. Appears capable of playing DE in different front alignments or inside at defensive tackle in pass rushing situations. Really came into his own as a pass rusher this fall terrorizing ACC opponents to the tune of 16 sacks. Can beat offensive lineman with his athleticism or power. A complete player against the run who can hold up at the point of attack or chase down plays from the backside. Bowers has been dealing with a knee injury, which has caused him to slide from once being considered a No. 1 overall candidate. But he is still one of this year’s truly elite prospects.

I had the privilege of participating in a huge mock draft on twitter over the past week or so. Those on twitter could follow the action using the hashtag #MockThree. This mock was billed as the “War Room Edition” as each team was represented by a General Manager and two Assistant General Managers.

I want to thank Michael Schottey for including me in the process and his scouting knowledge and direction through the process. A thanks also goes out to Ty Schalter for his work as my cohort at the assistant level. If you’re on twitter and don’t follow these guys then you need to fix that immediately (@Schottey and @lionsinwinter).

Without further ado, our picks:
