Well, well, well. Chip Kelly entertained thoughts of leaving Oregon for the NFL only to announce earlier this month that he would stay at Oregon.

Of course, that means he’s headed for the NFL, right?

Apparently, according to a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

The fit wasn’t right with the Cleveland Browns or Buffalo Bills but it must be with the Philadelphia Eagles. Or maybe looming NCAA sanctions at Oregon are getting too close for Kelly’s comfort.

Eagles make it official by announcing Chip Kelly as their head coach. Owner Jeffrey Lurie gets the man he wanted all along.

— Chris Mortensen (@mortreport) January 16, 2013

Chip Kelly’s success at Oregon is undeniable but many have been interested to see how his offensive style translates to the NFL game. We’ll get the chance to find out starting next season and that includes a matchup with the Detroit Lions.

It would seem the Lions would be better off facing the Eagles earlier in the season with the Eagles still trying to work out the kinks. Of course, it may be that the Eagles need an entire season to make the transition and so it may not really matter when the Lions get them on the schedule.

This hire seems to have boom or bust potential with not much in between. How do you think it will play out?
