It’s been a fairly busy news day involing the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff.

Danny Crossman is out, apparently heading to Buffalo, while the Lions have reportedly hired Bobby Johnson as their new Tight Ends coach.

The Lions already had, at least publicly, a tight ends coach at the beginning of the day but Tim Lappano will be moving from tight ends coach to running backs coach – a position he has held previously with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.

Lappano’s name was initially reported by MLive.com as one of the coaches that would not be retained for the 2013 season but that was later retracted. Perhaps now we see why their may have been some confusion as it is possible Lappano was told he would no longer be the tight ends coach, but would remain part of the Lions staff.

As for the new tight ends coach, Johnson arrives after spending one year with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the same position. Prior to joining the Jags he was an assistant offensive line coach with the Buffalo Bills for two years and the offensive line coach at Indiana from 2005-2009.

The Lions still need positions coaches for the offensive line and wide receivers.
