The college bowl system may be watered down but it does provide for a final look at a number of draft-eligible players on a nationals stage. Here is the bowl schedule for today as well as a look at a few players to watch that could be on the Lions’ radar come April.

Gildan New Mexico Bowl
Nevada vs. Arizona
1 p.m. ET, ESPN

Duke Williams, SS, Nevada – The Lions are a mess at safety with Louis Delmas and Amari Spievey unable to stay healthy. It is a strong bet they will draft a safety next April and Nevada’s Duke Williams is one they could consider in the mid- to later-rounds.

Dan Buckner, WR, Arizona – The Arizona Wildcats aren’t a team loaded with draft prospects but one guy that could get a look that fits a potential area of need for the Lions is wide receiver Dan Buckner. He’s a bigger receiver at 6’3″, 215 pounds and could develop into a complimentary deep threat opposite Calvin Johnson. Early projections for Buckner place him in the 7th round.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Toledo vs. Utah State
4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

Will Davis, CB, Utah State – Will Davis has only been playing organized football for four years but he put together an All-WAC season and has an active interception streak of five games. He has good height at 6’0″ but is a little thin at 186 pounds. Early projections place Davis in the 5th round.

Kerwynn Williams, RB/KR, Utah State – It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Lions took a look at a smaller, speedy running back to pair with Mikel Leshoure considering the way the Jahvid Best situation is playing out. Williams has the versatility to play out of the backfield or the slot as well as a return man. The 5’8″, 190 pound running back is projected to be picked in the 5th or 6th round.
