Corey Fuller- I haven’t seen Fuller practice personally, outside of the small clips of film provided by detroitlions.com, but Tim and Mike detroitlions.com writers rave about his speed and that he isn’t as raw as most of us thought displaying good hands and routes throughout the rookie mini-camp. I like what I’m hearing about Fuller, but I’m not reading too much into reports until we’ve seen how he plays against the veterans. Still, it’s really good to hear Fuller is better than advertised for a sixth round pick with only one year of football experience. Fuller may just be a diamond in the rough in this year’s draft class.

May 10, 2013; Allen Park, MI, USA; Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah (94) stands next to Devin Taylor (92) during rookie mini camp at Lions training facility. Mandatory Credit: Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Devin Taylor- If there is a player I want to really excel who wasn’t a high round draft pick it’s Taylor. If Taylor can develop into a starter over the course of the next two seasons, the Lions will have the most versatile and biggest defensive line in the NFL. 6’5 Ziggy Ansah and 6’7 Taylor coming off the edges paired with Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh in the middle would be a nightmare for offensive lines and would help take pressure off the Lions linebackers and secondary players, who have struggled the past two seasons. So far he’s shown he is very athletic in limited action and will likely find his way into the Lions’ defensive end rotation at left end.

Joesph Fauria- Speaking of diamonds in the rough, Fauria is another candidate to really impact the Lions this season. At 6’7 1/2 255 lbs Fauria has displayed excellent hands and speed in rookie camp. I could see Fauria eventually taking over Tony Scheffler’s role, especially if Scheffler has another down year. The tight end battle will be an intriguing one in training camp this year with Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler having very up and down seasons last year, and the Lions drafting Michael Williams and signing Fauria immediately following the draft. I could really see Fauria becoming the Lions number two tight end by the end of the season.

Cody Wilson- At 5’9, 191 lbs the Central Michigan product is not the pyhisically imposing athlete we’ve seen the Lions target this offseason, or the fastest, but Wilson has been reliable so far in camp – an invaluable trait to have on a roster. The thing we’ve been hearing most about Wilson is that “he’s in the right place at the right time,” another invaluable trait the Lions roster could use. With so many good slot receivers on the Lions roster already it seems like a stretch for him to make an impact on the offense, but anything can happen, and maybe he finds his niche on special teams or as a return man.

Ziggy Ansah- Obviously there is very little contact at camp, but in the drills the Lions are able to run, Ansah has shown exactly what we thought he would, athleticism, speed, and a quick first step off the ball. What does that mean from a football standpoint? Not much, but he’s doing exactly what is expected of him to this point in the offseason, which is what fans and the media want to see from a top five pick.

The Titus Young saga took another interesting turn this week when it was reported that the former Detroit Lion wide receiver had been arrested twice on Sunday.

Most have likely heard of Young’s foibles when he was arrested under suspicion of DUI and, just 14 hours later, was arrested again for trying to “jail break” his impounded Mustang. On a more comical note, Deadspin posted a story about a suburban Detroit AT&T store getting frequent visits from Titus, wanting entry after hours while saying “don’t you know who I am,” demanding freebies, and taking a nap in the store while snoring loudly. Follow the jump here for a precious picture of l’il Titus’ nap time.

While we could go on and on about what is wrong with Titus, and that we are fearful for his well-being, let’s save that for Dr. Phil. Since this is a Lions’ fan site, let’s discuss the anger fans should have that he was drafted in the first place.

Despite having talent, it was well known that Boise State’s Young had a knack for finding trouble. He had been removed from the Broncos during his sophomore year following a fight with a teammate (prophetic of a future run-in with Louis Delmas). Young pouted for not getting the ball last year and was benched and released. Whether he has been employed as a football player or unemployed, Young just appears to be an awful person.

Martin Mayhew makes no bones about his draft strategy. He takes the best player available and that’s how they end up with players like Young. Taking the best player available means you might draft a guy with issues and hope he suddenly becomes an upstanding member of society.

The Lions’ brass had to have known of Young’s past and talked with him, whether at the combine, or a one-on-one meeting. With the amount of time and money spent screening draft candidates, are you telling us that they couldn’t pick up on what a knucklehead this guy is? In regular guy terms, everyone knows a jerk. He may be in your circle of friends, a family member, or co-worker. Often times you know a jerk from the moment you meet. Titus has shown that his demons are so massive that they have been a part of him well before he arrived in Detroit.

Super Bowl-caliber teams rarely waste second round picks as the Lions did in 2011. The team is now paying the price on the field and off. Each time Titus does something incredibly stupid, he will forever be linked to the Lions, the team that thought this headcase could be an NFL player.

CBS Miami tells the story:

Rogers, 34, told police he left his room around 1 a.m. with some friends and headed to Club Liv. While at the club, Rogers and his group allegedly met a woman who the group would bring back to Rogers’ room, according to Miami Beach Police.

Rogers told Miami Beach Police he put his valuables in the room safe when he returned around 7 a.m. and the party continued until the nose tackle fell asleep. According to police, Rogers said at 12:30 p.m., he awoke and found the woman the group had met the night before was no longer there.

Once he realized the woman wasn’t there, Rogers told police he tried unsuccessfully to get into the room’s safe. Hotel security then came to the room and was able to pry open the safe and found Rogers’ valuables were missing.

There really isn’t anything in this story I’m able to identify with, but waking up to find almost $500,000 worth of your stuff missing must really suck – even for a man who has made as much money as Rogers has during his NFL career.

Rogers signed with the New York Giants prior to last season but spent the year on injured reserve. He’s scheduled to earn a base salary of $940,000 for the 2013 season; otherwise known as twice as much as necessary to replace the stolen goods.
