The Detroit Lions loss to the Packers on Monday Night football was all too familiar but despite poor officiating, they could have avoided it.

The Detroit Lions fans have every right to be very angry at how poorly the game in Green Bay was officiated, but this franchise will never move forward until they learn how to capitalize on their opportunities to win big games like that one last Monday.

It would be ignorant to say that the officiating didn’t make a difference in the outcome of the game. The officials practically handed the Packers their first touchdown as stop after stop by the Lions were turned into first downs by penalties.

With help like that, even the Lions would have gotten into the end zone.

But if the Packers are for real, they shouldn’t have needed that much help. Their only other touchdown was also aided by poor officiating as was the final drive to run out the clock and kick the game-winning field goal.

This is where every Lions fan everywhere has every reason to feel like they were screwed because they were. Plain and simple, the officials determined the outcome of the game more than the Packers who did little to make anyone think they deserve to be in first place today.

The problem is this; playing the role of the victim doesn’t do any good. It won’t get the justice that Lions fans want of Roger Goodell taking to the podium and admitting how awful his officials were and that the game will be awarded to the Detroit Lions because of the inept performance of his officiating crew.

Big penalties at big moments suck, we all get that because that’s the life of being a Lions fan. However, these Motor City cats have to live with it because they didn’t take advantage of their opportunities to score touchdowns instead of field goals and decide the outcome of the game themselves instead of allowing it to stay close and be decided by bad calls that favored the more ‘popular’ team.
