Detroit Lions Roster Cuts: Mikel Leshoure, Two Others Released/Waived

The Detroit Lions have until 4 p.m. EST to cut their roster down from 75 to 53 players, and they’ve gotten off an early start.

As of now, the Lions have already waived Mikel Leshoure and Darren Keyton, on top of releasing defensive end Darryl Tapp.

Leshoure was given every opportunity to prove his worth with the new coaching staff, but it just wasn’t enough to warrant a roster spot. This gives UDFA RB George Winn a much better chance to make the final roster, unless of course the Lions decide to keep two fullbacks on the roster.

The Lions will likely slot Kyle Van Noy into their sole injured reserve/designated to return spot, but that cannot happen until Tuesday, so releasing Darryl Tapp was a necessary move.

Last year the Lions did the same with Owens, and were forced to release Rocky McIntosh only to pick him back up a few days later.

The Lions now have 19 more cuts to be made in less than five hours. Check back with SideLion Report for more updates.
