The Detroit Lions have added a new name to their battle for a cornerback roster spot by signing veteran Drayton Florence today.

That should be a familiar name to Lions fans. Florence spent the 2012 season with the Lions, playing in eight games as a broken arm cost him a portion of the season.
Now 33-years old, Florence returns to the Lions after spending last season with the Carolina Panthers where he played well, ranking as the 19th-best corner by Pro Football Focus.
It might seem like a long-shot, minor move but the same might have been said about Rashean Mathis a year ago. Florence will have to beat out a handful of younger players for a spot on the final roster, but his addition shouldn’t be immediately written off by fans.
That being said, Florence had workouts with the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens previously and was not signed to a contract by either team.
