With training camp underway and the NFL season quickly approaching, it’s time to look at some key dates for the Detroit Lions.
August 3: NFL Hall of Fame Game (NY Giants vs. Buffalo Bills 8:00 p.m. EST on NBC)
August 5: Deadline for players under contract to report to their clubs to earn an accrued season for free
August 9: First Lions preseason game vs. Cleveland (7:30 p.m. EST on NFL Network)
August 15: Second Lions preseason game at Oakland (10:00 p.m. EST)
August 22: Third Lions preseason game vs. Jacksonville (7:30 p.m. EST)
August 26: First roster cuts. Prior to 4:00 p.m. EST, clubs must reduce their rosters to a maximum of 75 players on the active list.
August 28: Final Lions preseason game at Buffalo (7:00 p.m. EST)
August 30: Final roster cuts. Prior to 4:00 p.m. EST, clubs must reduce their rosters to a maximum of 53 players on the active list/inactive list.
August 31: Beginning at 12:00 noon EST, clubs may establish a practice squad consisting of eight players by signing free agents who have not accrued a full season of free agency credit or who have played on the 46-man active roster for less than nine games during any accrued season. A player cannot serve on the practice squad for more than three seasons.
September 8: First Lions regular season game on Monday Night Football vs. Giants (7:10 p.m. EST on ESPN)
