Mike Martin Gives Ndamukong Suh a Hard Time on Reality TV Show

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has seemingly made a yearly tradition of finding a reality show to appear on during the offseason and this year’s edition is American Muscle.

The show features athletes working out under the direction of Mike Barwis, formerly the strength and condition coach at the University of Michigan under Rich Rodriguez. Rich Rod may not have worked out so well but Barwis become something of a star due to his high-intensity personality, raspy voice and his reputation as a top trainer. Rodriquez left town but Barwis remained in southeast Michigan to start Barwis Methods. It is there that American Muscle takes place.

Suh paid Barwis a visit on a recent episode of the show and got paired up with former Michigan Wolverine and current Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Mike Martin. Known as a workout freak and having a history with Barwis dating back to his college days, Martin was in his element and had no problem giving Suh a healthy dose of trash talk.

Now, I’m all for a little good fun but does Martin take it too far? Suh has been a highly productive pro and has always been in great shape. Martin’s talk rings hollow to me as I watch the clip – like a mid-level prospect giving a Heisman Trophy winner and sure-fire first round pick a hard time over some results at the NFL combine.
