Yesterday marked the end of the “everything must go” auction of items left in the Pontiac Silverdome. The number of items that could be considered worthwhile memoriabilia were limited but the auction is looking like a success – at least compared to what the Silverdome sold for nearly five years ago.
Triple Sports & Entertainment LLC’s grand plans to renovate the building haven’t come to fruition after initially stating their expectation was to begin work in spring or summer last year. The dome is now facing an uncertain future as its condition deteriorates and it’s contents have been liquidated.
Triple Sports paid just $583,000 for the property in November 2009 but the liquidation auction is suspected to have brought in about $1 million. ESPN’s Darren Rovell provided some auction details in a report yesterday.
While the auction has ended, fans looking to grab a piece of Silverdome memorabilia are in luck. Stadium seats were not included in the auction and remain available for purchase. Prices range from $100 for a single seat ($175 if you want a number 20 seat) to $465 for an adjoining set of four seats.
