“He’s, obviously, a very valuable weapon.”

New Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi is very impressed with Calvin Johnson. While the Lions offense has been learning the new scheme being implemented by Lombardi, it has been clear how dominant a receiver Megatron truly is. His athleticism, his attitude, his ability, his work ethic… Johnson is the best in the league for a reason.

Drafted by Detroit in 2007, Calvin has played his entire career as a Lion. He has built himself, through hard work and dedication, to be the most feared receiver in the NFL today. Whether it be by Mega-stiff-arm, or by beating three defenders, Megatron gets it done. His amazing play has made him the face of the franchise currently, with legions of Lions fans replacing their old #20 jerseys with #81.

In the coming 2014 season, the Lions passing game is expected to flourish. While Detroit’s offense was ranked 3rd last season, they still only finished 7-9 after a late season collapse, allowing the division title to slip through their claws. This season, the offensive scheme is different, the Lions have picked up a few more pass-catching threats, and there is a feeling of excitement and determination with the team that hasn’t been around since 2011. Teams will find it hard to prepare for a star-studded Lions squad with a mysterious new offensive look.

Expect Calvin to break another record or two this season on the way to the playoffs. Both the Bears and the Packers are going to compete hard for the division title, but they would be foolish to discount this year’s Lions.
