The pick is in, the Detroit Lions have made their seventh selection of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Who: T.J. Jones
What: Wide Receiver
Where: Notre Dame
When: Round 6, Pick 13 (189 overall)
Why: The Lions’ plan going into the offseason was to sign a veteran wide receiver and to draft another. The need to draft a receiver with a higher pick was mitigated by the selection of Eric Ebron in the first round with the team choosing to use a late round pick instead. The late-round value is apparent in the NFL.com scouting report on Jones:
Athletic, smooth-moving, polished receiver who runs crisp routes, has terrific hands and boasts NFL bloodlines. Balanced skill set, dependability and versatility will be valued at the next level, where he could be a productive No. 2 or No. 3 receiver in a sophisticated passing system. Arrow pointing up.
