The pick is in, the Detroit Lions have made their sixth selection of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Who: Caraun Reid
What: Defensive Tackle
When: Round 5, Pick 18 (158 overall)
Why: The Lions traded down 12 spots in the fifth round and got themselves a developmental tackle. For their trouble, the Lions picked up a seventh round pick from the Dallas Cowboys. Behind Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley and C.J. Mosley, the Lions have a spot for a fourth tackle who can work his way in slowly as a limited rotational player with an eye towards the future. Suh’s contract situation is well documented and Fairley and Mosley are set to become unrestricted free agents after this season. The Lions get an agile defensive tackle noted for his quickness off the ball who can be brought along slowly as the Lions plan for the future.
