The Detroit Lions selection of North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron with the tenth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft was met with all sorts of emotions from Lions fans. The range really ran from delight to despair with some shock and confusion mixed in.

Ebron was the subject of a recent Sports Science feature on ESPN, check out the video:

I’m not sure if that’s enough to change the mind of anyone who really didn’t like the pick but does it make you feel any better if you were on the fence? Let us know on the comments or on twitter.

Ultimately, this pick won’t be validated by an athletic performance testing laboratory or a scouting report, it will be what happens on the field that counts. However, it is easier to see why the Lions would rate Ebron so highly. As Nate Washuta pointed out on Twitter, so many Lions fans wanted Sammy Watkins because he would have been a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, another weapon for Matthew Stafford and would take some heat off Calvin Johnson. Adding Ebron to the Lions offense does all three of those things, just in a different way than Watkins would have.
