Detroit Lions' Offseason Workout Program Begins Today

While the Detroit Lions’ 2014 season still feels like a long way off, it will start feeling a little closer for players today.

Today marks the first day of the Lions offseason workout program. Offseason programs are highly regulated per the 2011 collective bargaining agreement so the first two weeks are limited to just strength and conditioning activities on a voluntary basis.

The second phase encompasses the next three weeks and can include some on-field drills. Live contact and offense vs. defense team drills are not permitted.

The third and final phase takes place over the last four weeks of the nine week program. Teams are allotted up to ten days of organized team activities in which they can run a variety of team drills, just without live contact.

Teams with new head coaches are permitted one additional minicamp period. Here is the Lions full 2014 offseason schedule:

First Day: April 7
Voluntary Minicamp: April 22-24
Organized Team Activities: May 20-22, May 27-29, June 2-5
Mandatory Minicamp: June 10-12

Offseason workouts are not open to the public.
