Report: Shaun Hill Expected to Sign with St. Louis Rams

The Detroit Lions’ options for backing up Matthew Stafford are dwindling and now even the incumbent is leaving the picture. ESPN NFL insider Adam Caplan has reported that Shaun Hill is expected to sign a one-year deal with the St. Louis Rams.

That puts the Lions in a bit of a bind as Luke McCown re-upped with the New Orleans Saints earlier today. The Lions have expressed a willingness to add a quarterback through the draft but they would seem to be best served in the short-term by having a primary backup with NFL experience. Kellen Moore remains on the roster but the Lions haven’t expressed any confidence in him as a player ready to serve as a number two.

I had hoped Hill would stay, but he must want to see the field again before he retires, and Bradford is more likely to get benched than Stafford.
