The Detroit Lions have found a safety to pair with Glover Quin. James Ihedigbo played in Teryl Austin’s secondary with the Baltimore Ravens and joining the Lions was not unexpected with Austin becoming the new offensive coordinator in Detroit.
Ihedigbo tweeted about the deal late last night.

Because of Quin’s versatility, the Lions weren’t confined to pursuing safeties that profile as just strong or free. With Ihedigbo suited as more of an in-the-box strong safety, Quin will is expected to take on the free safety role. Ihedigbo received a positive rating against the run from Pro Football Focus, while rating negatively against the pass. The difference was opposite, although not as sever for Quin, who was better against the pass than the run.
The signing of Ihedigbo doesn’t take a safety out of the running for the Lions in the first two days of the draft entirely but it frees up their options.
