As things stand now, the Detroit Lions are in need of a backup quarterback. That hole is filled if they are able to re-sign Shaun Hill but with the price of solid backup quarterbacks at an all-time high, that may not be a reality for the cap-strapped Lions.
Perhaps it would be if the market for Hill was mysteriously barren. News regarding Hill has been slow so far but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The St. Louis Rams are also in need of a backup and will have Hill in town for a visit.
Free agent QB Shaun Hill of Detroit visiting Rams on Monday. Potential backup for Bradford now that Kellen Clemens has gone to San Diego.
Hill and the Rams had mutual interest two years ago before Hill re-signed with the Lions so it is no surprise to see the Rams pop up as a serious option again this year.
Losing Hill means finding a new primary backup for Matthew Stafford as it doesn’t seem the Lions are willing to hand that role over to Kellen Moore. They may look to the bargain bin as the dust further settles or draft a quarterback with more developmental upside than Moore. Of course, signing a low cost vet and drafting a developmental quarterback is an option as well.
