The Detroit Lions and Brandon Pettigrew are still in contact regarding a new deal, but don’t expect an agreement before the official start of free agency later this afternoon.
Lions are still in conversations with Brandon Pettigrew but doesn't sound like a deal will get done before 4. Expect he'll test free agency

With Pettigrew’s agent able to talk with other teams over the weekend, there should be a pretty good understanding of what his market is like. The New York Giants and New York Jets have reportedly shown some interest but Pettigrew hasn’t been one of the hot names around the league. That being said, the lack of progress on a new deal with the Lions could suggest Pettigrew will be able to land a contract with another team that is more than the Lions are willing to pay.
The Lions have bigger needs than tight end and the Lions will have an opportunity to replace Pettigrew in the draft. Eric Ebron could be an option in the first round, with Austin Seferian-Jenkins a popular Lions pick in second round mock drafts.
