New York Giants Have Interest in Brandon Pettigrew

The New York Giants are expected to address the tight end position this offseason and one of the players they are reportedly already showing interest in is Brandon Pettigrew.

Vacchiano’s tweet doesn’t exactly make it sound like the Giants are putting a big focus on Pettigrew. It is more likely he is just one of many they will check in on to get a feel for the overall market at the position.

News on Pettigrew has been slow in this early period before the official start of free agency – even with the Lions who expressed interest in retaining his services. The Lions chose not to go so far as to use the franchise tag to keep Pettigrew and it doesn’t seem they have made him a big priority as of yet.

While the negotiating period just opened for Pettigrew as far as other teams are concerned, his agent has been able to talk to the Lions all along because he is under contract with the team until the start of the new league year tomorrow afternoon. It is likely the Lions got an understanding of what Pettigrew’s representation was looking for during meetings at the combine last month. A soft market for Pettigrew increases the chances that he will be back in Detroit.
