The chances of Louis Delmas returning to the Detroit Lions were pretty much ruled out by the organization after the cut him to free salary cap room. It is now official that Delmas will be wearing a different uniform in 2014 with the report that he has signed with the Miami Dolphins.

It isn’t surprising Delmas is signing a one-year deal considering the concerns over the health of his knees. He was able to play in all 16 games for the first time in his career last year but that came at the expense of practice time as the Lions had Delmas on a program designed to get him on the field in games. The deal he signed with the Lions last offseason was loaded with playing time incentives, as his deal with the Dolphins likely is as well.
Delmas is originally from Miami so this is a homecoming of sorts for him.
The Lions are likely to sign a safety in free agency as they look for a more dependable body to pair with Glover Quin.
