Fans wanting to see the Detroit Lions address the cornerback position in a big way might not have to wait until the draft. It wasn’t expected that the Lions could compete financially for some of the top free agent corners but that hasn’t stopped them from reportedly checking in with Alterraun Verner.
Add the Lions, Steelers and Giants to the mix of teams with interest in #Titans CB Alterraun Verner. Mentioned Rams, Vikings & NYJ earlier

The cornerback market has already been hot with Brent Grimes re-signing with the Miami Dolphins on a contract that averages $8 million per year and today’s news that Sam Shields would be re-signing with the Green Bay Packers on a four-year, $39 million deal. The price tags are rising but the Lions are apparently still poking their nose around.
Verner has made public statements that indicate he isn’t looking to break the bank on a deal, but as much interest as he is drawing is sure to push the price tag up, especially given the other recent cornerback deals. He was fantastic in the Titans’ first ten games a year ago before struggling in the final six but still finished as the 12th ranked cornerback in the league by Pro Football Focus.
It is hard to imagine the Lions becoming serious players, even with a contract carefully constructed to minimize the cap hit in year one. Lions fans can legitimately add Verner’s name to the “players to watch” list but shouldn’t spend too much time daydreaming about him in Honolulu blue.
