The Detroit Lions won’t have to try to reach a contract extension with Ndamukong Suh representing himself. According to Sports Business Journal’s Liz Mullen, Suh has selecting CAA and Jimmy Sexton as his new representation.

Now that the Lions know who to negotiate with they can go about the business of working towards a contract extension to keep Suh with the team beyond the 2014 season and clear up some salary cap space in the process. With an agent selected so late in the process, it would be a major surprise if an extension deal is done by the opening of free agency on Monday afternoon. That’s OK because the Lions do have some money to spend and can free up whatever they need for draft picks and to deal with in-season injuries down the road.
