With the New Orleans Saints releasing wide receiver Lance Moore, the Detroit Lions can add a solid free agent target to their board.
The Lions don’t have a ton of money to spend, currently sitting about $11 million under the salary cap, so they will have to do their shopping in a way that maximizes the bang for the buck. New Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi’s familiarity with Moore from their time together in New Orleans helps in that regard.
Moore finished fifth on the Saints last year for catches and targets but received an overall positive rating of +3.4 from Pro Football Focus, finishing ranked 52nd out of 111 wide receivers who played at least 25% of team snaps.
Statistically, Moore and Nate Burleson had nearly identical levels of production despite Burleson being a bigger part of the Lions offense. With a role the size of Burleson’s in Detroit, the Lions can count on Moore to be an upgrade and gives them someone who can produce out of the slot with the health of Ryan Broyles a wild card.
